Tulz

Cost calculator

What does searching cost?

Every minute a mechanic spends searching for tools is missing in the workshop. Enter your figures – the calculator shows what that costs per year.

How many people fetch tools?
Per mechanic – searching for tools, asking around, bringing them back
Labour rate charged or internal cost per hour
Excluding holidays, public holidays and sick days
Search time per year 220 hours that is 28 full working days Cost per year €24,200 around €2,017 per month

Example calculation: mechanics × minutes × working days ÷ 60 × hourly rate. How much search time Tulz saves in your business depends on how tools are issued and stored today.

Where the minutes go

  • The tool is not in its place – someone still has it at their workstation or in a vehicle.
  • Asking who had the special tool last and waiting until it is back.
  • The set is incomplete or damaged – which only shows up on the job.
  • The tool is at another site, and nobody knows.
  • The test date has passed – the tool must not be used.

How the calculator works

Mechanics × minutes of searching per day × working days gives the search time per year. Multiplied by the hourly rate, that gives the cost. Use the labour rate if the time would otherwise be billed, or the internal cost per hour.

With Tulz, every tool has a fixed location and a code. The search shows immediately where it is, who has it and whether it has been tested – at the other sites too.
