Managing special tools

A special tool rarely has just one number: the repair manual quotes the vehicle manufacturer's OEM number (say T10171), the invoice carries the supplier's article number, and anyone who bought an equivalent tool on the open market knows the tool manufacturer's number. Tulz stores all of them on the same tool – and finds it by any of them.

Add what shortens the search on a normal day: which vehicles and engine codes the tool is meant for, where it is kept, whether it is free right now and who had it last. Pictures and documents such as the manual or calibration certificate hang directly on the tool.

How it works in the workshop

  1. Create – assign an inventory number (or let Tulz suggest one), name, category, storage location. OEM, manufacturer and supplier numbers go into their own fields; as many as you like per tool.
  2. Vehicles and engine codes so that the search also understands "timing belt 2.0 TDI".
  3. Search – two characters in the search bar are enough. Spelling does not matter: "VAS 6767" finds "vas6767", "V.A.G" finds "VAG". Results show status, storage location and photo; arrow keys and Enter open the tool.
  4. Print the label – the QR code goes on the tool, the most important numbers with it (Printing labels).

What comes with it

  • Several numbers per tool, also on the individual parts of a set (Special tools with several numbers)
  • Suggestions from the manufacturers' stored tool lists when creating – one click and name, number and inspection interval are filled in
  • Search by inventory number, name, all numbers, serial number, vehicle, storage location and employee (Finding tools)
  • In the workshop network the same search shows which partner workshop has the tool – with a request in one click
  • Tool page with timeline: every check-out, return, inspection and relocation on one line
  • Duplicate for identical tools, bulk editing for many at once

Who it is for

Every vehicle workshop with manufacturer tools in the cabinet – from the independent shop with three brands to the dealership that has to prove the manufacturer's mandatory equipment. Why the data behind it matters is explained in the guide Managing special tools.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to enter every number?

No. An inventory number is enough to start; everything else can be added at any time. The more numbers a tool carries, the more often the search hits on the first try.

Does the search cope with typos?

Spaces, dots and upper/lower case do not matter. "T 10171", "t10171" and "T10171" lead to the same tool.

What is the difference between a special tool and a dealer tool?

None – both mean the tool prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer. Tulz understands both terms so everyone finds it.
